| Route |
The Cape Town City Marathon is a new addition to the Nedbank Series in 2007 and links the historic city centre with the wide variety of cultures and communities that makes up the Mother City. Runners gather in the early morning shadow of Table Mountain at the Adderley Street close to the Slave Museum and Government Avenue.from the start runners pour downhill through the city, past the theatre before crossing over to the Castle and proceeding out towards the Southern suburb. Fired up and motivated by crowd encouragement in a short diversion through Langa runners return via Pinelands, Voortrekker rd and the Harbour to the V&A Waterfront. From there its out towards Greenpoint stadium, Mouille Point and Three Anchor Bay on Beach Rd and then back into the city passing churches, mosques and buildings that date back to the 1700s. The finish is directly below the City Hall Balcony where former president Nelson Mandela gave his freedom speech on the evening of his release from jail on 11 February 1990. The course one of the flattest to be found from the City Centre and has the potential of delivering a winning time around 2 hours 10 minutes with the right runners and weather conditions. Both the 10km and 5km events are single laps in the city centre.
