It is a 35km bike race which starts on the Highlands road to Elgin and then enters the Kogelberg Valley for a fast downhill finish. The route starts on the Highlands road with a steep incline to allow the field to separate before the stunning descent into the Kogelberg valley. PADDLEZONE - Kayak Down River, Freestyle and Sprint Race This is the Flagship event of the festival and sees white water kayakers race head to head through 4kms of grade 3-4 white water
The Freestyle event is aimed at both beginners and well as intermediate experts with the emphasis being on having fun and going big
The Sprint race is against the clock, down the last rapid, 'Judgement day'. Fluid has sponsored brand new Fluid Detox's for the event so paddlers who reach the final will compete head to head to see who is the winner. Each kayaker will have 2 runs to post the best time
The Cadiz River Mile Swim - This race puts a spin on the standard long distance Swimmers Mile. It involves swimming though a couple of rapids into the estuary and down to finish line at the festival hub. The River Mile Swim takes the format of a traditional mile long swim and puts it into a river environment, the first of its kind in South Africa. Swimmers negotiate some small rapids initially and then enter the Palmiet estuary for an open water swim to the finish at the Festival hub. It is a cold water swim, so an outer layer is recommended
The ARK Crocs Race - This race is for those who want to race on the river but don't have the skill to do it in a kayak. Gravity provides safety at the major risk sites and the event is always full of thrills and spills. It attracted over 100 competitors in 2009. This year, we are putting a slightly different spin on the event and awarding theARK - Best Fancy dress Prize! This race appeals to all takers and little or no skill is needed. The objective is to get to the bottom rapid the fastest and there are no rules. Safety is provided at the major rapids. There'll be plenty of action with three heats with the winners of each receiving a prize. The distance is around 2.5 km
