The World Single Speed championships will be held on the 29th September in NATAL. We are hosting the South African Single Speed champs here in the South of Johannesburg, on Thaba Trails. Single speed is as the name explains... one gear.. It has some weird traditions but they claim to be the exteremists. On a mountain bike where they have either converted the bike to have NO derailers and only a single cog on the back with one chain ring in front. This can also be achieved by blocking out all gears on a normal bike...it does appeal to a certain culture. They also have "beer stops" these are points where you can stop for a beer and get a "legal short cut".....normally about a 1km short cut. They also dress funny...no lycra allowed....I rode in a kilt shirt and tie last year... a carnival of note..... care to give it a go????
