EVENT # 8 ON ROAD: POTCHEFSTROOM, North West, Sunday 4 October 2009

Sunday 4 October 2009 in Potchefstroom marked the final of the Momentum Health Teavigo National Duathlon Series 2009.

A speedster of note and back in form, after the first 5 km run Brand du Plessis led into the transition, followed by Johan Pretorius, Bryce Viegas and Jason Spong. A strong wind made it tough from the start, challenging the cyclists. Catching Brand in the first 10 km of the cycle, Jason and Brand worked well together opening a good gap over the rest of the field. But Brand is still Best….over the last 2.5 km run Brand opened a gap of 20 seconds bagging another great win, followed in second place by Jason Spong and Cycle Labs’ David Labuschagne in third position.

And the ladies simply could not catch Andrea Steyn. Fresh from the World Duathlon Champs in North Carolina where she managed a sixth position overall, Andrea is simply too good! Leading from start to finish Andre Steyn crossed the line to win 5 out of 8 events in the series.

Brand du Plessis and Andrea Steyn will repeat their 2008 success and win the Momentum Health Teavigo National Duathlon Series 2009…a prediction that was spot on! Congratulations to Brand and Andrea who did indeed repeat their 2008 performances and who took home Grand Prix prize money to the value of R 10 000 each.

And so we have come to the end of the series - 8 wonderful events attracting hundreds of duathletes.
