Moses Kurgat will spearhead a five strong Nedbank Dream Green Team this Saturday at the Heroes Marathon in Umtata. Comrades stalwart Modibe Ludwick Mamabolo will be using this race as part of his build for the 2016 Comrades Marathon, a race that has his full attention.

Then there is Tumelo Mhalangu who will be hoping to improve on his personal best of 2:22.33 run in Cape Town last year. Ntsindiso Mphakathi finished 4th at this years SA Marathon Championships on the tough Mossel Bay course in September. He will be looking to improve on his time of 2:18.42.

Chabeli Nyedimane will be making his debut in the marathon and based on his 10km PB of 29:08, should be capable of a 2:10 marathon.

But all eyes will be on 24-year-old Moses Kurgat. The Kenyan had missed out on the Old Mutual Soweto Marathon after a bungle with his previous management team. Now in the hands of the Dream Green Team, Kurgat will line up in the Heroes Marathon.

His pedigree is certainly something to behold. A best of 2:08.40 run in Gonju Korea in 2012 is testament to his ability. Kurgat has also clocked 2:09 twice in his career. Finishing third in both Cannes and Enschede in 2011 and 2012 respectively, Kurgat clocked 2:09.30 and 2:09.59.

After missing all of 2013, Kurgat won the Taipei Marathon earlier this year with a time of 2:16.21. With a R90 000 first prize purse, the racing is sure to be hot.

Lining up in the women’s 10km is Rutendo Nyahora, who is fresh off her victory in the Liquor Hub Fun Run 10km in Gabarone. Thabang Mosiako will join her in the men’s race.
