Greater Tzaneen Municipality is proud to announce the upcoming Tzaneen Mayoral Race, set to take place on Saturday, December 9, 2023, at Nkowankowa Stadium. Participants can choose from a range of distances, including the 21.1km Half Marathon, the 10km Race, a 2km Fun Run, or a Walking event.
The Tzaneen Mayoral Race, formerly known as the "Greater Tzaneen Mayor's Marathon," is a renowned event with a rich history dating back to 2014. This race adheres to all the rules and conditions set by ASA (Athletics South Africa) and LIMA (Limpopo Athletics).
It unfolds in the heart of one of Limpopo's vibrant townships, famous for hosting prominent events such as the Munghana Lonene FM Music Awards and the Grannies International Football Tournaments. Nkowankowa, nestled in the Greater Tzaneen Local Municipality of the Mopani District Municipality in the Limpopo province of South Africa, thrives on a culture of active and healthy living. The township boasts a diverse range of sports, from soccer, long-distance running, netball, volleyball, and basketball to cricket, engaging both women and men in extramural activities. Additionally, Nkowankowa places great emphasis on arts and culture, forming the bedrock of its identity.
General:
Medals: Will be presented to all finishers before cut off time, as well as prizes for the 21.1km and 10km winners.
Prize Giving: The official price giving and or lucky draw will take place after cut off time. Proof of age for prize winners will be required. Prizes will be withheld until confirmed.
Appeals: Must be lodged with the organizers within 30 minutes of the finish of the race together with the compulsory fee of R500.00
Minimum Age: 21.1km - 16 Yrs 10km - 14 Yrs 2km Fun Run / Walk - 9 Yrs
Temporary Licences: Will be available at R40.00 each for 21.1km & 10km non – club members.
